QUIET NIGHTS OF BLOOD AND PAIN (2009)
Andrew Copp (The Mutilation Man, The Atrocity Circle) is back with another of his creations. I have not
seen other Copp films and probably will not. The titles sound cool but after this disappointment I’m
reluctant to return, even for curiosity’s sake. For some reason I couldn’t even find this one on IMDb;
what a surprise.
Quiet Nights is a social commentary on how the U.S. government treats their veterans. We have this
bald guy vet, fresh from Iraq, loose on the streets taking people’s lives. He has extreme post traumatic
stress syndrome and psychosis. Copp illustrates this character by giving him jeans, an army camouflage
jacket, and black gloves. The back of the DVD box states this movie is “Giallo styled”. The black gloves
are the only thing this film has in resemblance to Giallo films. So baldy goes insane with violent
headaches where he pounds his skull repeatedly in his vacant apartment. I wish he would have done us
all a favor and taken a gun to his head a long time ago.
Then we have this overweight female vet that is also suffering from PTSD. An old guy (also a vet)
gives her weed and peyote or LSD to relax and they bicker about the government and how our country
treats war veterans like shit. I understand completely Copp’s message, and I’m empathetic, but
filmmaking is not his strong suite. Making a movie like this, with atrocious acting was not a good idea to
lobby his political views.
Throughout the movie I wasn’t thinking about the government, vets, or politics. All I wanted was to see
the fat girl’s breasts, and go to bed happy. Baldy is the worst psychotic killer I have seen in a long time.
He’s as threatening as Billy Corgan on a mood swing. The kills are so plastic and flavorless that it
doesn’t even seem like your watching a horror film or a thriller. Sure, there’s blood, but Id be more
entertained by watching the fat girl menstruate on a pillow.
Needless to say I hated this film. I could not stand any of the characters and the movie deeply
depressed me. After watching and reviewing this crap I think I might be sufffering from PTSD. Steer clear
of this garbage!
