I’m a huge fan of the gore movement H.G. Lewis started. Finally the spotlight was cast on blood, guts and visceral carnage. Even by today’s standards the original first splatter film: Blood Feast, is pretty graphic and intense and a hell of a lot of fun. It has it’s slow parts, yes, but it delivers plenty when it needs to. Tonight I am reviewing Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat, an unworthy sequel but somewhat enjoyable horror comedy. The humor in the first film was subtle and neatly tucked into the corners, barely visible and it worked well. Some may even say there was no humor, that’s how subtle it was. Here with this sequel the humor is upfront, and where it should have been hip and clever, is mediocre and predictable most of the times. Not even H. G. Lewis directing this film (which he does) could manage to pull it up out of the trash.

Fuad Ramses III has just inherited the Exotic catering store from his deceased maniac grandfather. It was the scene of brutal murders and worship to the god Ishtar. That all happened in the first film and it will happen again here faster than you might think. The writers stuck with a very similar story from the original. A stuck up rich woman is planning her daughter Tiffani’s wedding and wants some exotic catering from Ramses. Ramses agrees and starts preparing things. In a strange room he finds the stone statue of the goddess Ishtar. Her eyes light up and that’s enough to turn our normal caterer into a religious fanatic, homicidal lunatic idiot. He suddenly now knows that he must plan a "blood feast" and disguise it as a wedding reception. Oh and he must use Tiffani’s friends’ body parts as ingredients in the dishes.

Detective Myers, another bumbling idiot, has got it in his head that Ramses is trouble. He keeps dropping by the store as girls start disappearing and appearing in food Ramses is preparing. He (Ramses) tortures the girls and removes eyes, tongues liver, pretty much anything to prepare the sumptuous "blood feast" ceremony in honor of Ishtar. Meanwhile to overtly add nudity to the film, Tiffani and her friends have a lingerie party and try the clothing on each other’s beautiful bodies. Do girls really have lingerie parties and strip naked and try on the lingerie for each other?? I might never know. So girls start disappearing courtesy of Ramses III. Body parts are removed and blood flows. The gore is pretty simple and it gets simpler for me for I saw the R rated version. I couldn’t find the uncut at the time. But I have seen R films with more blood than this. H. G. Lewis, Godfather of Gore, why hast thou forsaken me?

So finally the night of the wedding is here and the following reception. Fuad Ramses III leads Tiffani’s mother to the strange room in his store to talk finances. Meanwhile the people at the party eat up the delicious dishes made from human body parts. Ramses ties her up and puts a bucket over her head for some unknown reason and utters some words to Ishtar. Detective Myers busts in with his fat stereotypical partner Detective Loomis. Loomis shoots Ramses. Myers comes under the control of Ishtar and kills Tiffani’s mother. In trying to destroy the darn statue it falls on Myers, knocking his brains out. That’s all folks.

I thought the ending was fine and dandy. You actually got to see some brains. If I failed to mention earlier Tiffani was going to marry none other than Detective Myers. She was also present in the final showdown in the strange room. I believe it was her (in trying to destroy the statue) that had it knock her fiancé’s brains out. Ramses was killed so fast you barely even notice. In the original film there’s a chase on foot. The thing that really killed the film for me was the obnoxious humor which was totally dumb. It was like Jar Jar Binks in Episode one. I have always asked myself why filmmakers ruin horror sequels by turning them into horror comedies. Please, no more of this. Even though this film gets only two coffins I recommend it because the essence of the Ramses character is still there and that made this film decent.
