An epidemic begins to break out in a seaside town. Oblivious authorities
assure the townspeople that it's not a cause for concern as it will only
last a few days, with no more damage then canceled classes and closed
businesses. Of course the authorities where wrong, and soon the dead
start returning to life and start walking...and feeding.
As the townspeople learn of the happening through local radio station
hosts Sheldon and Katrina, most, including a group of young teens are
skeptical. When the zombie attacks intensify, and the distracting hard
rock soundtrack begins blaring, Megan and her group of friends, as well
as grouchy car crash victim Greg, seek refuge in the radio station with
Katrina and the apparently now infected Sheldon. Tension and panic rises
as Sheldon and one of the teens turn zombie, and are killed off, by
weapons with some terrible sound effects.
The food supply begins running low, although as far as I can tell they
have only been at the station for a few hours, so the always poor
decision is made to have a few of the guys should leave the secure
facility to go in search of more food. Shockingly only one of the group
is killed on the trip for food, but when the others return safely, they
find that the dead have made their way into the building which leads to
one of the guys making the suicidal sacrifice to lure the zombie away
from the group as they make their exit from the station, now driving out
of the city and holding up in an abandoned house.
The group makes good use of all the amenities (a pool, ocean, tv, and yes
a very quick almost skinless shower) provided by their new surroundings.
While discussing what their next move should be, the group communicates,
via radio, with another group of survivors, a mere 6 hours away, which
claims to offer safety to all comers. Before the groups planned departure
at daybreak, zombies break into the house and claim 2 more victims, one in
gruesome fashion, forcing the remaining few to evacuate the home
prematurely, heading for promised safety.
The groups arrives at their destination only to find that, surprise(!), it's
now abandoned, occupied only by more hordes of the walking dead, and the
credits roll...
If a gore and breast filled zombie flick is what you seek, then look
elsewhere, as the gore is only mild, and breasts nonexistent. However the
storytelling, while at times clichéd and usually predictable, is solid
overall, and the acting is passable to say the least. Considering the low
budget and inexperienced cast and crew, they did a good job with this
movie. However it fails to fit into either the blood, guts and action
filled zombie flick such as Zombie, Resident Evil, etc...or the
story or character based apocalyptic zombie type such as Night of the
Living Dead or The Walking Dead, and just kind of falls flat in the
middle, which hurt it a bit. Its a decent watch, but if you want a truly
great indy zombie flick, check out something
like Dead Genesis
, but if you would like
to check The Dead Walk out for yourself, go here and see for yourself.
