Men are such pigs, or so they say, and maybe they are right, whoever they are, and this movie proves
it. This infamous revenge epic directed by Meir Zarchi was banned in the UK and Germany (of all
places). It tells the simple story of a woman's lust for vengeance after a horrible rape. This is not Kill Bill
theatrics, this is raw, realistic exploitation violence at its best.
Jennifer, from New York, moves into a cabin by the lake for the summer to work on her first novel. She
bathes naked in the nearby lake and struts around in Daisy Dukes. No wonder the only four guys in
town start to get hot and bothered for this little lady. They decide to get Matthew, their retarded doofus
friend, laid for the first time and the best piece of tail around is Jennifer. They confront her on the lake
while she relaxes in a row boat and chase her onto the shore. There they chase her down some more,
rip her bikini off and one of the guys rapes her in the grass. They let her stumble back through the
swamp to her cabin, naked, raped, and dirty. But they catch up to her along the way and another guy
gets a chance to rape her, too. He even throws in a donkey punch while he's at it and we get more than
our share of unwelcomed man-ass shots. She finds her way back home, looking like the naked zombie
from Night of the Living Dead, and her favorite neighbors show up to rape her one last time. As you
have probably guessed, this long 26 minute rape sequence is extremely unpleasant.
They send Mattew back to finish the job and kill her so she won't call the cops on them, but he is
unable to do her in. Beaten to a pulp, physically and mentally damaged, Jennifer slowly pulls her self
together and it becomes apparent that her only recourse is revenge. Two weeks later, the raping
quartet are curious why her body hasn't been discovered yet and over a sundae they elect two of the
guys to return to the house to check on the supposed corpse, which Matthew knows does not exist.
They drive by in their boat and find her alive and well, then return to kick the crap out of Matthew.
Meanwhile, Jennifer stops by the local church to beg for forgiveness for what she is about to do. The
first one to pay for his sins is pussy-child Matthew. She seduces him back into the woods and lets him
climax in her again (for some reason) as she slips a noose around his neck and hangs him good. She
picks up the next guy at the gas station he works at and drives him into the woods. She makes him strip
at gunpoint and is about to shoot him but he manages to convince her that she was asking for it all
along. They return to her place and share a bubble bath. She starts to jerk him off (for some reason),
while reaching for a knife with the other hand which she uses to cut his balls off.
The last two guys don't like to wear shirts, but lucky for us they don't mind wearing pants. Once they
realize that their friends are missing, they decide to check in on their victim. One of them gets dropped
off shore, while the other swings by the house in his boat. Jennifer swims up to the boat and throws him
overboard. She starts driving back and forth, threatening to cut him down with the boat motor. His buddy
on shore sees this and tries to swim out to help him but he gets an axe in his back. The other guy tries
to beg for mercy, but Jennifer says "Suck it, bitch" and revs the motor on his abdomen, ending his
raping days for good. Jennifer decides to take the boat for spin and enjoy the rest of her vacation in
peace.
It has a boring 20 minute set up (boring only because you want them to get to the revenge stuff
already), but then the film delivers the sleazy, grimy, grindhouse goods. The rape scenes are distasteful
and grim and the revenge is sweet. There are tons of lush, quiet shots admiring the serene power of
nature, which works like a counterpoint against the ugly events transpiring amidst the wild beauty. The
one thing I don't get is why her revenge plan involves her being sexual with the guys who raped her?
Doesn't make much sense to jerk off your rapist when you can just shoot him in the nutsack. But I guess
cutting his member and letting him bleed to death is more poetic in a way. The film is classic revenge
cinema and for good reason. They don't make them like this anymore, they're too afraid to.
