I was in the mood for a killer bugs movie but this was so much more, and not necessarily a good thing. The dual menaces are a horde of killer flies and zombies! Before you get too excited I must add that none of that helps make the movie more enjoyable. The irksome cast of characters demolishes what could have been an otherwise decent B flick.
We start with old neighborhood friends that have gotten together to pay their respects to a deceased loved one. From the start, these offbeat douche bags garner my most sincere hatred. They haven’t seen each other in a long time so after the burial, they gather at a vacation house to reminisce on old times. They are in their thirties and start bitching and exasperating the audience with feeble conversations that only work to further deepen my resentment. After all the exposition one woman is attacked down by the beach by the flies, but not before we get to see her milky white boobs. The flies enter her mouth, infecting her body and transforming her into some sort of zombie. With the insects in full control of the host she goes after her friends to either infect them or violently kill them. I prefer the latter.
Soon the group of friends in the house is in a panic when more become zombies. These infected sons of bitches are ruthless. They pick up random weapons to attack with, jump around, smash glass and are smarter than your average zombie. The movie gives us some decent gore gags and tries to make us laugh. For example, one of the zombies walks around, very much still homicidal, with his head cut off. Towards the end, the two survivors realize that 80’s music subdues the creatures. What type of watered-down shit soup am I watching?
It hurts me to the core of my soul when a horror comedy fails so awfully. When my eyes see gore and a pair of boobs but my mind is brainwashed with leper saliva. The nasty CGI bugs, the abominable dialog and retarded directing cement this as the worst killer insect movie I have ever seen. I can’t write more even if I wanted to (but trust me I don’t) because the film’s events evaporated in my mind as quickly as vapor trails in the night sky. I think this is my mind’s cleansing mechanism.
