You'd be surprised how closely Mexican monster flicks mirror the monster mash-ups of the 80s. Take this movie for instance. Sure, it has a dumbass name, and its a sequel to a movie that probably not many people saw, but its as entertaining as any special effects horror show America ever turned out. Don't believe me, well read on and find out how a movie where no one actually goes on vacation and deals with a possessed demon doll that eats cake becomes as fun a ride as anything Savini or Rick Baker ever invented.

The film opens in a boring-looking flower shop run by Julio, the king of the dumb hairstyles. The store looks like his living room, but that's beside the point. Mayra, one of his favorite new pop stars, comes in to buy flowers and he offers her a free potted plant. She takes it but pays for it with an invite to her sisters Halloween-themed birthday party at her father's movie studios. He walks her outside and sees her sister playing with a strange doll. He hears noises from inside his house...I mean shop, and runs back in to find a crazy old man running around knocking pots off the shelves. He claims the doll has returned for him and he's in danger, then he cuts his hands for some reason and runs outside only to be run over by a car. Julio, as confused as the audience, cradles the dying man and is giving some ceramic circles by the man, then sent to find a book that will explain everything. He goes to the library, finds the book, and rips out the pages with the most important info. He knows now that he must destroy the doll.

At the party that night, Mayra sings a catchy tune from her new album and daddy brings out a huge, Halloween-themed cake out for his little girl. Tania, the birthday girl, is about to cut into the cake, when she cuts into her finger instead and bleeds on the cake. This, somehow, awakens the demon in the doll, and as they rush off to tend to Tania's wound, the doll races to the cake and eats the blood-covered sugar witch lies on top of the cake. The creepily real doll starts to look dumber and dumber as it transforms into a giant, pizza-faced demon. The party is ruined when the cake's volcano decoration starts spewing blood from the demon witch's first victim. Later that night, Tania remembers that she left her birthday present (7 silver coins) back at the studio, so Mayra agrees to take her back there to find them. They run into Julio, who stayed behind to find the demon witch and kill her. They find the coins, but Tania wanders off (as silly kids often do) and follows a floating fireball that sucks her into a cheap effect that is supposed to be a rip in the dimensions, or something like that.

Julio and Mayra try to save Tania, but they run into the Witch and Julio tosses one of his ceramic circles, which saves him from being impaled. However, the Witch manages to shrink Mayra and turn her into a sugar statue, which is then placed on the giant cake from before and is set on fire. Julio saves the sugar doll from the fiery cake and restores her to actual size with another one of his exploding ceramic discs (I am not making any of this up). Julio tells her they must make a silver disc in the same shape as the ceramic ones to kill the Witch, but in the meantime the Witch vomits on people through phones, spins a room upside down by turning the door handle, and possesses a pumpkin to try to stop them. The dad shows up with a shotgun and joins the team. Mayra is swallowed by the ground, but she is rescued by another ceramic disc. They then throw some holy water on the wall where Tania's silver coins are stuck, and the coins pop off and Tania appears from the other dimension. They use the coins to make the silver circle and are about to go attack the Witch when the power goes out.

Julio goes to investigate the fuses and is knocked out by the Witch. He then becomes a cheap looking toy and a retarded grade-school effect is used where his toy-form is on the floor of a cardboard room and it starts to fill up with water! This is possibly the worst effect I have ever seen on celluloid. Again, the ceramic circles come to the rescue and he climbs out of a well (???) somehow. The Witch appears again and kills Mayra. Julio is pissed off. He goes after the Witch and they fight it out for quite sometime. Fire balls are thrown and he dodges them as he struggles to reach the silver circle he dropped and then manages to throw it at the Witch and kill her once and for all! Mayra is brought back to life all of a sudden and all's well that ends well.

This movie was surprisingly fun. As you can tell, the plot is insane, but the movie is never boring. Sure, it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense, but as far as Mexican horror films go, this one is just as fun as Evil Dead. If you can look past that ridiculous drowning room scene, you'll find a very unique take on the evil witch genre and enjoy some of the bloodiest action in Mexican horror films. This will not be a movie for everyone, but if you like Mexican horror films to begin with, then you'll certainly enjoy the ride. Personally, I think it tops the first Vacation of Terror, but the one down side is that no one ever goes on vacation!!!!
